Situated along the island’s remote north coast, and reached on Keomuku Rd. (Hwy. 430) north from Lanai City, some 6½ miles, to the very end, then west on a rugged, coastal dirt road, another mile or so, to the start of the beach. The beach comprises approximately 8 miles of shoreline, including a series of smaller beach areas—Federation Camp, Po’aiwa, Lapaiki and Awalua—all quite secluded, and with narrow strips of sand, backed by shallow sand dunes. The beaches offer some beach-combing and shoreline fishing possibilities, but swimming and snorkeling are not encouraged due to the choppy seas. There are also two shipwrecks visible just offshore from the beach—one of a concrete-mud barge run aground in 1960, and another of an old oil tanker, dating from the 1950s.
