This is California’s oldest state reserve, originally founded in 1902. It encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of redwood forest, with over 80 miles of hiking trails meandering through it. There is also a small nature museum here, with exhibits of animals and plants of the region, and a 190-site, primitive campground. Ranger-led campfire programs in summer, featuring slide shows, movies, and lectures. Open daily sunrise to sunset; visitor center open Mon.-Fri. 9am-5pm. Day-use fee: $6.00 per car; camping fee: $25.00 per night.
