Domaine Chandon is the best-known producer of méthode champenoise sparkling wine in the Napa Valley and the first wholly French-owned winery in the US. It was established in 1973 by Möet-Hennessy of France, makers of Champagne Möet & Chandon, Hennessy Cognac and Dior perfumes. The winery is housed in a modern, architect-designed building, built into a hillside and surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds with a duck pond and shaded picnic areas. Visitors can tour the facility and see the entire champagne-making process first-hand, as well as enjoy the winery’s full range of sparkling wines—Napa Valley Brut, Brut Rosé and Blanc de Noirs—and varietal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The winery also produces a sweet, fortified wine under a second label. Panache. A small restaurant on the premises specializes in French gourmet cuisine; reservations are advised. Tours, tasting and sales daily, May-Oct. 10am-6pm, Nov.-Apr. 11am-5pm. Fee for tasting.
