Beaulieu is one of the best-known large wineries in the Napa Valley, with approximately 1,500 acres of estate vineyards located in the central part of the valley. The winery itself is housed in an ivy-covered brick and concrete building, dating from 1885. It was, however, founded in 1900, by a Frenchman named Georges de Latour, and brought to prominence in the early 1900s by Russian-born winemaker André Tshelistcheff, who is also credited with establishing Cabernet Sauvignon as the “Queen of California wines.” The winery produces over 400,000 cases of wine annually, primarily vintage-dated varietal red wines made by the open-tank fermentation method, as well as barrel-fermented white wines. Offerings include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc; a Napa Valley port is also produced. Beaulieu was acquired by the Heublein Corporation in 1969. Open for tours, tasting and sales, 10am-5pm daily; last tour at 3pm.
