Juana de Asturia, daughter of Charles V, converted this former royal palace into a convent during the 16th century. She is entombed here, watched over by 26 Franciscan nuns. The monastery is worth a visit to see the elegant Baroque stairway, which is decorated with Coello’s frescoes; it also houses a collection of tapestries, sculptures and paintings by the likes of Cano, Titian, Roldán and others.
