For centuries loggers transported their wood from the Asiago Plateau to the Brenta River valley by way of the Calà del Sasso, a trail with 4,444 stone steps and an adjacent chute. When they reached the Brenta River, logs were loaded onto rafts and carried downstream to Venice for boat construction purposes. Today this interesting hike is one of the most popular in the zone, both for its historical and natural aspects. Timing: Allow approximately two hours to ascend the steep trail and another two to descend. Difficulty: Ascending this trail is moderately difficult because of its steepness and proper hiking attire is necessary. Caution: Walking on slippery stones can be dangerous and it is not recommended to embark on this trail during wet periods (in the early spring when the land begins to thaw and during or following rain storms). The best time to explore the trail is from June until September. Directional Info: From Valstagna, follow signs toward Foza. Just out of the town center at the road’s second curve you’ll see a small parking area where the trail begins.
