Just north of Garda’s city center is Punta San Vigilio, an enchanting harbor formed where Mount Luppia dives into the lake. The cypress-lined avenue lures visitors toward the Punta San Vigilio, with its 16th-century Villa Guarienti, designed by Sanmicheli and surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees and beautiful gardens. This romantic panoramic spot is the perfect place to watch the sunset and has a hotel, Albergo San Vigilio, a restaurant and a harbor. Be sure to see the 11th-century olive tree, the citrus groves and Mermaid Bay Park (10 am-8 pm, entrance fee), an olive grove leading down to a small beach where there are picnic tables, a playground, a volleyball court, ice cream shop, a beach and shower facilities. Avisit here will make it clear why this has been a much-loved retreat among celebrities like Lawrence Olivier, Vivien Leigh and Sir Winston Churchill.
