The Accademia itself was founded in 1580 but it wasn’t until the 19th century that it housed the pinacoteca (art gallery) first established with an extraordinary collection given by the Venetian art collector Count Casilini. Venetian art from the 15th-18th centuries represents the majority of the gallery’s collection, though there are also paintings by 16th-century artists from Ferrara, interesting 18th-century portraits of illustrious Rovigo citizens and, on the third floor, a picture gallery of the Episcopal Seminary. A few works are particularly worth seeing, including an altarpiece by Dosso Dossi and his brother Battista Dossi, La Madonna col Bambino e Cinque Santi, and the 18th-century Vedute con Rovine Classiche by Luca Carlevarijs.
