Take the alley directly in front of you (as you return from Palazzo Rosari Spada to Corso Mazzini) to Piazza del Mercato, a charming market square (the former Roman Forum) marked by an interesting fountain, sculpted in 1746 to commemorate the site of the long-destroyed Chiesa di San Donato.Walk east from here and you’ll soon stumble upon the Casa Romana the well-preserved remains of a house constructed in the first century, which contains a typical peristyle courtyard and an upper-level dining room (known as a triclinium), which still preserves traces of the original decorations.
