Chiusdino and Monticiano are also in the region’s three nature reserves (Alto Merse, Tocchi and Basso Merse), all of which have trails suitable for strolls. For information on the monthly openings of trails, contact Refettorio dell’Abbazia di San Galgano. Of the three, Alto Merse is the closest to Siena, with trails from Brenna (Bus #106) leading into it past the wild castle at Castiglion che Dio Sol Sa (literally “that God only knows”), Stigliano and Poggio di Siena Vecchia to Torri (Bus #106).
