Dominated by the profile of the late 13th-century Castello dei Conti Guidi, Poppi (back on the SS70) is a medieval jewel on a hill, which dominates the entire Casentino. La Costa (a medieval path) takes you up from the new town to the walls of the historical center and onto its main church square. The recently restored Castello dei Conti Guidi a grand testimony to the wealth and pomp of the Guidi counts, lies on its left. Its elegant courtyard leads you to the castle stairs, which in turn lead to the first floor with its Biblioteca Tilliana and chapel decorated with 14th-century frescoes by Taddeo Gaddi (Stories of Jesus and St John the Baptist).
