Kramer and Burgstraße are lined by rebuilt half-timbered buildings. Some of the original town defenses survived at Hohen Ufer, but the area is dominated by the modern Historisches Museum am Hohen Ufer. It has an interesting eclectic collection illustrating the city’s sometimes turbulent history. In addition to the usual range of arts and applied arts it has a collection of small German cars produced locally in the 1920s. It is a great museum for children as well. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, closing at 7 pm on Tuesday and Thursday.
