The ancient-looking Lutheran Erlöserkirche, was constructed in 1902-08 on order of Kaiser Wilhelm II, who favored Bad Homburg throughout his life. It combines Romanesque and Byzantine elements. Its four towers enhance the impression of size and height, despite the overall compactness of the building. The interior is another surprise, with marble walls and golden mosaics reminiscent of San Marco in Venice. The nearby Roman Catholic Marienkirche is only a decade older and built as a Neo-Gothic basilica.
