Standard rooms range in price from euro 580 to euro 1,100 per night. Parking in the covered garage is euro 75 a night! For that price, they throw in breakfast. You also get a perch high up on the tip of a promontory, surrounded by water on three sides, acres and acres of manicured lawns with specimen trees, an infinity pool that was once avant garde but is now de rigueur at dozens of Riviera hotels, and a private cable car, in case you want to descend to mingle with the hoi polloi. The rooms are plush and grand but the place is, frankly, so regal you feel as if you have to whisper. And I’ve always thought the lawns look suspiciously like the grounds of the kind of posh asylum that you might see in the movies. Speaking of movies, if you manage to visit during the Cannes Film Festival don’t hold your breath you might spot the odd mega star, a super model or Elton John.
