Tivoli Gardens is the big amusement park in the center of Copenhagen, between the City Hall and the Central Train Station and was founded in the mid-19th century. Today it’s one of the most popular attractions in Denmark but, unless you are traveling with kids, it shouldn’t be at the top of your list of things to see. In many ways, Bakken, north of Copenhagen, is a much better amusement park (more about Bakken under Excursions from Copenhagen) Nevertheless, Tivoli still has a lot to offer, with 32 restaurants, 400,000 flowers and 110,000 lamps, in addition to all the rides. Tivoli also puts on several concerts in the summer and it’s worth contacting the park to see if your favorite artists will be performing when you are in town.
