On its own little peninsula at the head of the Agujitas River, Drake Bay Wilderness Resort (full board) offers 20 simple oceanside bungalows, or tenting platforms with beds and electricity. Many customers take advantage of the daily, 45-minute charter flight from San José. There are a ton of things to do here – snorkel, swim at the beach (a 15-minute walk away), languish in a natural rock pool, kayak or canoe the river, visit their iguana farm and butterfly garden, dine at the renowned restaurant, take a tour or simply hang out at the bar. A four-day package with three tours costs US $700, including transportation. Rooms with meals are US $80 per person.
