There’s an established and dependable BestWestern on the beach, but one of the best and most interesting boutique hotels is off the beach – the Mar de Luz (kitchenettes, pool, children’s pool). In the main building of this Dutch-owned hotel, the upstairs rooms are junior suites (although they lack kitchens, as are offered in lower-level accommodations).
From porches or patios are views of either the mangrove field or the hotel’s inviting tropical gardens. Rooms 10 through 20 are fascinating, rounded river stone lodges, with exposed stonewalls inside and out. They have smaller rooms, but include kitchenettes and a sitting area. Number 8 and 9 are really cute and right by the pool.
