From the outside, this place appears tiny and you’ll need to look carefully for the narrow entrance, but its vast backroom is a banqueting hall that can seat hundreds and there are more rooms upstairs. If you come at peak dining hours you’ll find Bao Luo crammed to capacity with diners noisily working their way through a feast of Shanghainese specialties and reservations are essential. Dishes to try include the aubergine sandwich, which comes with minced pork and pancakes, the crab and pork meatballs or just good old xiaolongbao steamed pork dumplings.
