Built in 1928, the Peninsula remains the grandest hotel in Hong Kong and has been graced by presidents, film stars and royalty from around the world. In spite of a 30-floor extension in 1994 to regain the view over the harbor (after the construction of the Cultural Center) the “Grand Dame of the Far East” retains her elegance and character. Rooms are large and light and offer all modern comforts with a stylish blend of European and Eastern design elements. Service is impeccable and the list of facilities available to guests includes a fleet of Rolls Royces, private helicopters from the hotel’s helipad and personalized courses in Hong Kong’s culture, cuisine, arts and history, along with more usual options like the first-rate spa and excellent indoor Romanesque swimming pool which enjoys breathtaking views over the harbor. Even if it’s a little out of your price range the Peninsula is worth a visit – try one of its fine restaurants or hark back to the old days with some after noon tea in the lobby.
