Fangshan was established in 1925 by three imperial chefs whose families have been preparing cuisine fit for a king over hundreds of years. However, in spite of this long imperial tradition and the striking courtyard setting on the edge of Beihai Lake, the emperors might not be so happy with the food these days, particularly if the hefty bill was being deducted from the imperial coffers. This said it’s cer-tainly authentic (maybe too much so) and is worth coming for the imperial experience. To get here enter through the east gate of Beihai Park, cross over the bridge and then turn right.
