Of the many upscale offerings clustered around Jianguomen Qiao, the St. Regis is the finest, setting the standard for five-star hotels across the city, and has attracted the likes of President Bush and Uma Thurman. Rooms are elegantly understated and each guest is assigned a butler, but all this luxury doesn’t come cheap. The hotel has five restaurants, of which the Celestial Court Cantonese (see p. 216) is particularly renowned.
